Compton Verney, sept 23.
How John Audubon drew and published his unique book of American birds in the early 19th Century. About 1820, around the age of 35, he set out to to paint every bird in North America . He had the large drawings transferred to copperplate to be printed and handcoloured. While William Lizars, of Edinburgh, engraved the first ten plates, subsequent plates were engraved, printed, and hand colored by Robert Havell of London.
